As a famous chef, Annie is an Expatriate who runs a successful restaurant known as Annie’s Kitchen in Nigeria.
She has a great business, but she always avoided dealing with taxes.
For months, she ignored letters from the Tax Office, thinking she would handle them later.
However, one morning, she received a final notice warning her that if she didn’t act fast, she could face penalties—or even have her restaurant shut down.
Panicked, Annie rushed to the Tax Office, where she met Mr. Okafor, a strict but helpful tax officer. He explained that she hadn’t filed her taxes in months and that ignoring them could put her business at risk. Seeing how overwhelmed she was, he offered to guide her through the process.
Over the next few days, Annie learned about income tax, VAT, and business deductions.
She realized that taxes weren’t just about paying money—they also helped her track profits, qualify for loans, and avoid legal trouble.
With Mr. Okafor’s help, she settled her tax debts and even found out she was eligible for a small refund!
Her taxes paid, will also go a long way to help provide infrastructures such as the Public schools, Hospitals and Roads etc.
On the day she finally filed everything properly, Annie felt relieved. She had saved her business and learned an important lesson: running a restaurant wasn’t just about cooking—it was about taking responsibilities too.
That evening, she celebrated by creating a special new dish, “The Honest Taxpayer’s Feast,” to remind herself (and her customers) that being financially responsible is just as rewarding as making great food.
